Narrative itineraries on the Karst: routes through the borderland

3 interactive itineraries to discover the Karst

The Karst is a unique area for its nature and its history.
It is an extensive limestone rocky plateau that starts from the surroundings of Gorizia and reaches Istria passing through Trieste.

From the point of view of flora, fauna and the conformation of its limestone rocks it is a unique environment of its kind: without superficial hydrography, the waters flow underground and for this reason, it is characterized by sinkholes, caves and paths dug between the stones shaped by the wind and rain.
A borderland, it is historically known for having been the scene of violent battles between Italian and Austro-Hungarian troops during World War One.

Thanks to the mobile app CARIGOGREEN the territory is told through 3 narrative itineraries to be explored on foot, discovering how nature and history intertwine and define the landscape of this characteristic place.
